Please let us have a P45 from your current/most recent UK employer the first week you work. If you have not worked for more than a month or you have not worked before or are unable to obtain it for any reason, you will need to fill in a P46, so we can get you a tax code, which may take up to 6 weeks or so.
EXPLANATION OF TAX FORMS
A P45 is issued by your employer when you leave your job and is an official record of your tax code, gross earnings and tax that you paid whilst with that employer.
A P46 is a form to let the Tax Office know about a worker who doesn’t have a P45
A P38 is a form a current student completes in order to be exempt from tax. A current student is classified as somebody who will still be a full time student at the next April 5th. If you are completing your studies a couple of months later, you no longer qualify for exemption from tax.
A P60 is a statement issued to taxpayers at the end of a tax year- you will receive a P60 from every employer you have worked with during that financial year – these cannot be re issued. It is particularly important to let us know of any address changes even after you have left us.
